Summer is in full force! During this time of year, it is very common for the heat to affect your pets. Please remember NEVER to leave your puppy in a parked car without the air on. Taking precautions when letting them out to go potty or taking them on walks is very important for their health.
At home tips:
- Offer an ice pack or wet towel for your dog to lay on after coming in from outside
- Keeping your dog’s water bowl full and in reach at all times
- Add ice cubes to the water bowl to keep it chilled
- Spray your pup with the hose (if they enjoy it) every once in a while to cool them down
- Consider buying a baby pool for your dog to take a dip in your backyard
- Shade an area in your yard that your pup can relax outside without overheating
Walking tips:
- Try taking your dog out in the early morning or late afternoon when it is cooler out
- Avoid walking your pup on the hot pavement or darker areas
- Home make or buy some booties for your dog’s paws
- Bring a collapsible dish on walks so they aren’t parched
Even with taking these precautions, it is important to make yourself aware of the signs of a heat stroke. If your dog is showing any of these symptoms during the summer, you might take them to the vet to get checked out!
