Bloat is not super well-known among pet owners but it is a serious illness that can be deadly. If you
don’t know what bloat is, it’s a twisting and bloating of the stomach which can cause breathing issues and the pressure can cut off blood flow to the heart. It can be especially fatal for larger dogs, like Great Danes. Below are some symptoms to watch out for:

- Drooling
- Heavy Breathing or Panting
- Whining in Distress
- Attempting to Vomit
If you see these symptoms in correlation with each other, you should immediately take your dog to a vet.
Bloat can be prevented by taking some precautionary steps though. Instead of feeding one large meal a day, you should consider feeding smaller meals throughout the day. Another thing you can do to prevent bloat is waiting an hour after your dogs eat before they do too much activity. Raised feeders have also been shown to increase the risk of bloat. Trying to reduce these variables can be very vital to avoiding bloat!
