If you’re looking for a big goofy family dog that maintains its puppy-like demeanor through adulthood, look no further than the Bernese Mountain Dog. These sturdy dogs originated from Switzerland where they were bred to pull carts, herd cattle and be a loyal family watchdog. Because of their talent of cart-pulling, they became nearly extinct when transportation became more accessible and they no longer needed their skill. Thankfully a few breeders saw the beauty and calm disposition of this breed and decided to continue on the line. The Bernese Mountain dog, nicknamed The Berner, is easy to spot with its luxurious tri-color coat. This breed can weigh in at 100 pounds when fully grown so it’s best to socialize and train these dogs early on. The Berner is slow to mature mentally so they remain very playful and happy-go-lucky even as they age. Their youthfulness is very apparent, even in the Bernese Mountain Dogs that come to Fetchers! They don’t quite know how big they are and they love to give bear hugs! #sofetch
